On Civic Education In The Teaching Of Basic Courses Of Law

As the important part of higher education, the education of citizen awareness is aimed to cultivate the qualified citizens who can meet the requirements of the modern roles and law. Through the study of the basic courses of law, the non-law college students can have a good understanding of the common knowledge of law and foster their own legal thinking and citizen awareness. The elementary teaching of the basic law in the higher education should bear the responsibility to implement the education of citizen awareness. However, the current basic courses of law are not emphasized much and there exists many problems in terms of teaching contents and methodologies, which can not work well on the education of the citizen awareness.According to the present social background and the concrete conditions of higher education, the paper is presented in the following four chapters with the central statement of"the education of citizen awareness in the teaching of the basic courses of law"in universities.Chapter one: The basic knowledge of the education of citizen awareness is illustrated in this chapter. Firstly, the researcher reviews the changing of the definition of citizen and its legal explanation. Secondly, several components of law are extracted from the citizen awareness, such as the subjective consciousness, rights consciousness, obligation and responsibility consciousness and procedure consciousness. Then, the relationship between the education of citizen awareness and the other aspects of education is explained.Chapter two: The significance of enhancing the education of citizen awareness in elementary teaching of basic law courses is presented. At present, the elementary law teaching is not attached deserve importance. The researcher thinks that the citizen awareness education reflects the contents of the subject of law and it can meet the demand of the modern education in cultivating the qualified personnel. The education of citizen awareness is the crucial contents of the teaching of the elementary courses of law.Chapter three: The current conditions of the teaching of the elementary courses of law and its causes are presented. First, the researcher pointed out the misunderstanding on the education of citizen awareness. Second, the current condition of the teaching of elementary law courses is given from the perspective of teaching contents and teaching methods. At last, the researcher analyzes the reasons why the citizen awareness education is weak.Chapter four: The key point in this chapter is about the thinking on the education of citizen awareness in the elementary law courses. Starting with the establishment of the goal and general principles of citizen awareness education, the researcher argues that the citizens'experience of value is the crucial part of the citizen awareness education. And then, the practice of the education of citizen awareness is illustrated.
