The United States is the world's largest country of immigration. 400 years of immigration history shows that immigrants have made an immeasurable contribution to its economic, social and cultural progress and prosperity, and immigrants provide a powerful material and intellectual support to make such a young country become the strongest power in the world. The achivements the U.S has made are closely connected with the contributions of immigrants. American welcome immigrants generally in the immigration history, but the discordant voices have been prevalent. Supporting and opposing forces have been competing with each other, which determine the direction of Ameican immigration policy. The United States'hegemony has been strengthened as the world entered the new century. Thanks to the good domestic and international situation, the United States implemented more open and inclusive immigration policies. However, the outbreak of "9·11" terrorist attacks in the United States eventually changed the direction of immigration policy. The Bush administration has taken a number of measures against immigration work in order to make a multi-pronged approach to ensure homeland security.
