This paper researches different representations of history of Inner Mongolian cavalrymen (1945-1962), from perspective of theory of representation in cultural studies, to reveal reasons for formation of the various narratives of the same historical process of the Inner Mongolian cavalrymen, based on comparison of relevant official writings, oral history as well as literature, newspapers and documentary films and so on. The author puts forward, after extensively analyzes of the above mentioned materials, that there is close connection between the formation of the presentations of the history and the certain political and social context in today's Chinese society.The paper points out that oral history and narratives from grassroot society on the history of the Inner Mongolian cavalrymen are indispensable and irreplaceable for understanding whole picture of truth of the subject in question.The paper is composed of introduction, main body (three chapters), conclusion and appendix. The introduction explains reason and meaning of the selected topic, research method, relevant field and investigation the author conducted for the research. The first chapter clarifies characteristics of official writings in Inner Mongolian cavalrymen's history. The second chapter analyzes oral history from participants who experienced through the historical process. The third chapter talks about representations of the Inner Mongolian cavalryman's political consciousness, social activities and images in literatures, newspapers and documentary films. The conclusion summarizes the full content, and proposes personal arguments. The appendix is the first hand materials of oral history in the subject that the author herself collected for the research.
