Analysis Of The Impact Of The Establishment Of Diplomatic Ties Between Singapore And China, Malaysia And Indonesia Factors

Singapore became an independent country on 9th August 1990. Even so, as a country with the majority of Chinese, Singapore made a promise that it would be the final country to build diplomatic relations with China in this area to its neighbouring countries. What are the reasons? This thesis will discuss the factors that affected the building foreign relations between Singapore and China.The thesis will analyse the topic from three aspects: Firstly, briefly introducing the contact between Singapore and China before building diplomatic relations; Secondly, analysing the factors that affect the building foreign relations between Singapore and China; Finally, analysing the implications of these factors for current relations between Singapore and China.Singapore, after independence, was at a moment during the Cold War. Because of the importance of geographic position and special national conditions, Malaysia and Indonesia, the most important two neighbouring countries, always had doubt with it. So, the diplomacy of Singapore is small country diplomacy with the vivid feature of regionally oriented. Dealing relations with neighbouring countries is the basic point of diplomatic polices, Seeking the survival and development is the invariable principle because it is a country with the majority of chinese population and surrounded by Malay countries. So, after independence, Singapore made a promise to its neighbouring countries that it would be the last state to build diplomatic relations with China in Southeast Asia.The history had proved that the diplomacy strategy and polices was correct, wise and pragmatic. The diplomacy strategy and polices made Singapore get through the hardest times and start favourable external affairs and international environment, and defend the safety,stability and prosperity of the country.
