China is in the primary stage of socialism and the development of society and economy is unbalanced. Besides, with the enlarged enrollment and merged charge of the university, a special group– the poor undergraduates merges. With the continuous furtherance of the higher education, the real problems of the poor undergraduates in living, study and employment appear. Whether the poor undergraduates can become talents smoothly or not is not only related to the living conditions of the poor undergraduates themselves and their family, but also related to the equity and justice of education, as well as the stability of our country and society. The Confucianism represented by Confucius and Mencius was the ideological guide to the education of the poor students. Confucian educated the poor srudents, focusing on the ideas such as humanity, rites, real man and Tao of the great learning. The theory of Confucius'"No Child Left Behind Act"reflected the brilliance of his educational idea. In western countries, when educating the poor students, they concentrated on religious domestication in the feudal society, while they boiled down the situations of the poor students to the lack of their educational level in the capitalist society, avoiding the social system problem of private ownership of means of production. The Marxism thinks that human being is the generalization of social relationship and human being is free and comprehensive development. This thought offered ideological foundation for ideological and political education of the poor undergraduateds. The educational theories in ancient China and western countries had positive meaning during some periods, or in other words, have many shining points till today. But with the development of the times, these theories didn't adjust to our demands, so persisting in the guidance of the Marxism is not only the outcome of ideological and political education of the poor undergraduateds, but the demands of the socialist society. Their thought and mind are impacted greatly. This impact influences the undergraduates in two sides. On one side, it encourages a part of the poor undergraduates to make an active effort, to overcome the difficulties and then becomes a useful person through the lived experience. On the other side, it makes some poor undergraduates bear a heavy physical and mental burden, so as to influence their regular study. The most important, it causes some unhealthy mental conditions and incorrect ideology in their mind, and even forms the wrong attitudes towards life, value and the world. Facing the social conditions of ideological and political education of the poor undergraduateds and the change of the group features of the poor undergraduates, the ideological and political education of the poor undergraduateds is lack of correct attitudes, effective fuction system and effective educational methods, and even has strong utilitarian trend in the problems of their education. Guided by the Marxism and paying high attention to the ideological and political education of the poor undergraduateds is premise of doing the job well. In order to set up the resonable target system of ideological and political education of the poor undergraduateds, we should adequately consider the reality of their"poverty"and further strengthen the belief of training the qualified builder and reliable successor of the socialism. We should establish and perfect the ideological and political system of the poor undergraduateds, equally emphasize or stress financial aid and education and educate during giving financial aid. The different groups in the front line of the ideological and political education of the poor undergraduateds such as the academic educational teaching team, the ideological and political educational working team and financial-aid working team must form a united force. According to the psychological characteristics of the poor undergraduates, we should reinforce their education in mental health and improve their ability of self-awareness and mental prevention. School and society should provide a good enviroment for the growing and talenting of the poor undergraduates; moreover, we should make the most of the network to educate the undergradues imperceptibly in a good atmosphere.
