Hearing Impaired Students' Mental Health Status Research, Investigation And Education Strategy

The first hearing impaired children's school was founded in China in 1887. The hearing impaired students education has more than 100 year's history in China. Under several generations'efforts, there is an effective method in teaching principle, class-teaching mode, hearing speech inhabitation training, compensation for physical defective. Some reasons, such as the shortage of mental health teachers, single way for the education of mental health, ambiguous scope of mental health education, the lower level of specialized teachers, the lower identification of specialized position and profession, result in the teachers not developing mental health education to the hearing impaired students effectively in time; bring some kinds of barriers and problems in the hearing disorder students; and do some harm to family, society. Therefore, it is necessary to develop mental health education, shape good individuality, and to form healthy psychology. Through a survey study of this research, the writer tries to find the problems in mental heath education and the appropriate methods or strategies for the mental health education in the hearing impaired students in junior middle school of Weifang City to enhance their psychological diathesis and physical and mental health. Referencing some books and magazines about the mental health education for the hearing impaired students in elementary and junior middle schools home and abroad from WanFang Data and using Mental Health Test(MHT) compiled by Professor Zhou Bucheng and other psychological researchers from East China Normal University, this study makes a questionnaire to 169 hearing impaired students in 9 school of Weifang City and finds that the overall level of hearing impaired students mental health is common. Among all the hearing impaired children from the 9 questioned schools, only 43.13% of hearing impaired students mental health in good condition, still account for less than the entire surveyed half of hearing impaired students; 54.24% of them belong to the middle level of anxiety over all surveyed half of hearing impaired students. Theses students need targeted mental health education and guidance by the teachers in the teaching and daily lifemoreover, 2.6% of the hearing impaired students are in a high level of anxiety, and these students whose mental are unhealthy have serious mental disorder. These students must receive their special formulation for the individual counseling program guidance and are focused on their psychotherapy. This survey also finds that educational level of parents, full-time mental health teachers in schools are significantly related to the hearing impaired students'mental health status. For the hearing impaired students'mental health status, on the basis of the analysis on the factors of hearing impaired students of physical defects, family, school, society, this study proposes some methods and strategies for the mental health education in the educational objectives, educational ways and means, supporting systems, and gives a reference to the teachers of hearing impaired schools and parents in mental health education.
