With the rapid development of information technology, teaching and learning methods have undergone tremendous changes. It gradually changes from the traditional-style education into indoctrination, that students and teachers can interact at any time to fully stimulate the initiative of students. With the emergence of Web2.0, virtual learning communities and learning environment have been researched point as information technology to promote teaching efficiency and teaching quality, In this paper, Seconde Life virtual world as a platform, based on the background characteristics and education aim of secondary vocational students, introduce detaily open virtual worlds and discuss the practice problem that open virtual worlds applied in secondary vocational education.The main work and contributions include:(1)Summaries the characteristics of vocational students at the Internet age,by using ICT-learning distribution curves, analyze the learning needs of vocational students, the results indicate that the current information technology education can not meet the requirements of vocational school students, lead to inefficient teaching and other bad consequences.(2) Introduce content and features in open virtual world, according to the principles of student-centered, combined with disruptive innovation theory, analyze its advantages applied in the vocational education.(3) Second Life virtual world as a platform, ten students were selected to practice in the Zhashui vocational school, creating an open learning community in the virtual world, developing seminars and self-directed activities. At last, the characteristics of activities are summarized, and the learning outcomes achieved was analyzed.(4) Describes an open architecture used in the virtual world system of vocational education. First, learning theory by the constructivist and human learning theory perspective, revealing an great potential which used to open virtual world in the field of vocational education, discussing approaches and means from different aspects, and, open virtual world applied in vocational education create variety of problems,these problems and countermeasures s also be described.
