Abstract/Summary:
One of the most significant duties of the juvenile delinquency education institutions is to adjust their fallacious intentions via moral education in order to remedy their ill behaviors and teach them to be decent members of society. Although much emphasis has been put on the topic of moral education, the outcomes have not been ideal due to the lack of pertinence and attraction in the two critical points of the content and the methodology of education. The main focus of this thesis is to make the moral education of juvenile delinquents more specific and effective in accordance with how the young think and how the juvenile delinquency education institutions are actually functioning. The thesis consists of four parts. The first part is the elaboration of theme selection and the framework of the study. It also includes a general introduction of the current situation in the realm of moral education both at home and abroad. Specific study about the moral education among J.Ds can help perfect both the system of moral education as a subject and that of the theory about reconstructing the J.Ds. It may also improve the quality of moral education, hence, ensuring the security of surveillance and promoting the peace and security of the society.Part two involves the comparison between J.Ds and ordinary middle school students in ways of thinking and personality. It analyses the focus of J.Ds in various stages of imprisonment and the fundamental cause of different types of crimes committed by J.Ds. Just like ordinary middle school students, J.Ds put emphases on themselves, the concrete matters they are dealing with as well as the communication with others. However, they display less efficient ability of nationality recognition, self-control, moral judgments, and responsibility than their peers do. Moreover, they depend more and ask for more caring from family. The third part depicts the current moral education in juvenile delinquency education institutions objectively. Common sense and updated policies in fields of laws and regulations, moral judgments, and psychological health etc. are major contents of the education among J.Ds. Mainstream methods include classroom teaching, theme activities and psychological group study.Part four mainly discusses how to choose apt contents as well as methods in the moral education among J.Ds according to their thinking characters and the current conditions in juvenile delinquency education institutions. In this way, education can be more specified and effectiveness can be enhanced. Three sub-topics are being studied: the weakness in the thinking of J.Ds, the focus of the J.Ds in different stages of imprisonment and the classified education in accordance with the different types of crime. As for the methods of moral education, juvenile delinquency education institutions should increase individual education, in-class teaching formats, and initiate practice lessons. J.Ds should be taught to learn to self-educate and adjust their psychological status actively. Methods of education should be divers and interesting so as to let the content of education be inscribed in the heart and soul of every J.D. Finally, it is also beneficial to adapt advance methodologies from middle school education and successful examples in foreign countries to ameliorate the current system of moral education.
