| The tendency of economy globalization urges the internationalization of European higher education, while ERASMUS is the important component of the internationalization policy of European higher education. ERASMUS is the EU's flagship education and training program for Mobility and cooperation in higher education across Europe. The thorough study of ERASMUS will enrich the general theory of international cooperation in the field of higher education. ERASMUS not only helps to make the progress of members'economy, politics, culture and technology, but also impacts on that of other countries. The successful implementation of ERASMUS is worth to be popularized to the world.This paper is based on continuous collection of the newest materials of ERASMUS, including EU's official annual reports, proposals, communities, announcements, research papers and pieces of reportage. Historical methodology is used to study background(including political background, economic background and cultural context),development of this program, implementation results and the existence insufficiencies of ERASMUS from the first generation to the newest generation of this program. This paper focuses on comparing and analyzing the main components and achievements of different generation of ERASMUS in order to explain the reason why there are differences among each generation. It also focuses on tracing the change of this program, analyzing the process and achievement of its implementation, observing its impact on the field of higher education of member states, as well as the influence which possibly produces to other third country.The conclusions of this study as follows, through the implementation of Mobility, Multilateral Projects and Thematic Networks, ERASMUS has enhanced the international cooperation among the European universities and has support the achievement of a European Higher Education Area. This program introduces the European dimension in higher education, which boosts the process of European integration and promotes the international competitiveness of European higher education. ERASMUS Mundus enhances the cooperation and community between Europe and the third countries, which strengthens the attraction of European higher education to the world.The success on the mobility and cooperation among higher educational institutes as well as the great contribution to the internationalization of EU higher education provides a useful reference for our country. firstly,it helps to improve the training way of our personnel and the construction of faculty. The cooperation of higher education has provided the exchange platform for teachers raise and the curriculum reform. Especially, the Curriculum Development of ERASMUS has provided the example for our own curriculum cooperation. Secondly, it has provided successful practice for us to establish a more transparent quality assurance system in higher education. Last but not the least; it's a good model for us to internationalize our higher education. The internationalization of higher education is the main tendency towards cooperation and exchange in the field of higher education. Educational internationalization not only widens the vision of teachers and students, but also promotes the multicultural exchange and international cooperation of higher education institutions. |
