The ideological and political education is a kind of broad and common social activity, which sticks to the leading role of itself. It also represents intensively the ideological function of ideological and political education. After the reform and open, with the build of the socialist market economy, every field in the society and life in China has changed deeply and widely. In the field of ideology and culture, pluralism turns up gradually. In this background, kinds of different cultures, trends of thought, schools of thought and argumentations interact with each other and develop together. The original mainstream and leading value orientation are challenged enormously. Of course, the leading role of ideological and political education is weakened greatly. The safety of ideology of our country is threatened. College students are the future of the country, as well as the hope of the nation. They are the most fragile group during the period of large change. Standing at the key age when their world view, philosophy and sense of worth go into shapes, they are easily affected by outside changes, and then change accordingly. We should guide them correctly. Otherwise, they are doomed to get the bad influences of the multi-culture society. Hence, it's time to reinforce the build of the platform and battlefield of the ideology and political education, give the rein to its leading role and guide college students correctly and actively to help them set up right philosophy and sense of worth. It is one of the ways to educate the qualified builder and successor of socialism.The thesis is aimed to begin with the background of multi-culture. It defines the concepts of culture, multi-culture and the leading feature of ideology and politics education in detail, and then traces back to Chinese moral education and traditional education in ideology and politics in ancient times and takes example by western related theories in these fields. The writer probes into the quo states of education of ideology and politics, decomposes the opportunities challenges in front of us and manages to obtain the feasible principles and routes that we should adapt practically.This thesis includes three parts except for the introduction and conclusion:The first part:the basic concepts are defined and interrelated theories are expounded, first of all. it is such fundamental concepts as culture, multicultural and the dominance of ideological and political education is defined specifically; and then, on this basis, this part traces on the theories and methods about the dominance of ideological and political education which is in the moral education of ancient China and the traditional ideological and political education of Communist Party of China, and references critically to the dominant theories and practice about the western civic education and the dominant ideology.The second part mainly analyzes the opportunities and challenges that the multi-cultural brings to the dominant ideological and political education of college students. It mainly grasps those areas where we should pay attention to and should be strengthened about the contemporary dominant ideological and political education through the analysis of the challenge.The fourth part is the main part of this thesis. It bases on the above three parts to explore the principles and selection that we should adhere to under the multi-cultural background how to enhance the leading role of ideological and political education. We should strengthen the dominant ideological and political education and consolidate the security of the ideology mainly by the theoretical innovation, promoting the national culture, building the socialist core value system, teachers' team building, occupying positions in online education, improving self-education, the cultural environment building and other areas.
