Museum is a combined cultural institutions for collection, exhibition, education and research. Its function of education is an indispensable component of modern museum. Since the: last century, the value of museum education function and development is gaining more and more attention. Britain and the United States have developed for different groups of museum art education programs and activities for a long time, which china is very weak in this aspect. Student groups as an important educatees of museum education, is the heir to the traditiona culture and the pioneer to the future culture. To develop more museum art education programs and activities, to attract students to come into museum, and to improve the students’ artistic accomplishment by using the museum resources is one of the most important topics of museum art education.The thesis is divided into five parts. The first part is the theoretical summary of museum: and museum education. Museum art education is a relatively new research direction in our country This part is helpful to understand the concepts and definitions of the museum, the functions and features of museum education, and to Clear the connotation and heading direction of museum art education. The second and the third part mainly discusses the development history and current situation of British and American museum art education. By combing and analysis of the the history and current situation of the student-oriented museum art education of British and American, try to do researches on the object, content and education mode of it. The fourth part based on the discussion and analysis of the characteristics and basic theories of the student-oriented museum art education of British and American, and try to tap the inner reason of their success. The fifth part is taking the Jiangsu art museum as an example, and to do the investigation on the current situation of student-oriented art education activities in Chinese Museum and gallery. Based on the specific issues of Chinese museum education, to draw lessons from the basic theories and successful experience of the student-oriented museum art education of British and American, and according to China’s national conditions and children’s physical and mental characteristics,the thesis is putting forward feasible improvement advice for the student-oriented museum art education in China, and the strategy to reinforce the museum-school collaboration.
