According to the knowledge building principles, knowledge building learning is a constructive learning process based on the zone of proximal development. Two kinds of problem inquiry mode was found in the Baiyunyuan Primary School, one is single problem-inquiring, another is multiple problem-inquiring. Learners work on the same problem in the class of single problem-inquiring. In the class of multiple problem-inquiring, students research on different problems. In order to further optimize the teaching of knowledge building, this research compared the single/multiple problem-inquiring on different factors of collaborative knowledge building.First, combining with the teaching practice, we discuss the meaning and the causes of the single/multiple problem-inquiring. Secondly, based on the previous research findings and teaching practice, we construct the process model of collaborative knowledge building. Finally, according to the process model of collaborative knowledge building, we construct coding system of collaborative knowledge building and compare the single/multiple problem-inquiring on different factors of collaborative knowledge building. The analysis of data indicated that students work to deepen the views on single problem in the mode of single problem-inquiring, the students in the mode of multiple problem-inquiring work on multiple problems. Compared with the students in the mode of multiple problem-inquiring, students are more likely to achieve deep collaborative knowledge building in the mode of single problem-inquiring.Meanwhile, this paper also proposes several strategies to promote students’ collaborative knowledge building. These strategies can help teachers to put KB theory into practice with a certain amount of guidance to deepen knowledge building learning.
