SIOP (Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol) Model is a high-quality teaching model developed by America since1996through seven years’(1996-2003) research and practice. This model provides a set of relatively perfect lesson preparation, teaching methods and steps, whose core is composed of thirty features grouped into eight main components:Lesson Preparation, Building Background, Comprehensible Input, Strategies, Interaction, Practice/Application, Lesson Delivery, and Review/Assessment. SIOP is just like a tailor-made model for non-native English learners, with the goal that English learners can manage to achieve the greatest combination of "English language ability","content knowledge ability" and "task completion ability" in any English class. Moreover, the reliability and validity of the SIOP Model have been verified in a large number of American ESL classes. Lots of research findings have also showed that those students trained by this model can not only have a good grasp of subject knowledge, but also effectively improve their English language skills.By colfecting a large quantity of relative literature and audio data, the author has made a detailed interpretation of the SIOP Model, and has introduced some novel teaching methods fit to the situation of English teaching. The focus of this thesis is to try to create innovative teaching designs of Senior High English Reading, Grammar and Project, with the guide of the SIOP Model and the basis of Advance with English.The innovation of this thesis is embodied in two aspects:on the one hand, it not only theoretically delves into the concept and content of the SIOP Model, but also practically makes feasible teaching designs of senior high English classroom instruction. On the other hand, the existing studies of the SIOP Model are basically carried out in an ESL context, while this thesis is a positive attempt of the SIOP Model studied in an EFL context. The author will in the future conduct corresponding empirical research through teaching experiments.
