| In 2003, China made the Standard of English Curriculum in general high school (Experimental). The new curriculum standard embodies the educational idea of based on students'development and cored on cultivating the spirit of students'independent creativity and practical ability. Reading, as an input of English teaching, is the most important one of the four basic language skills.In the autumn semester of 2008,high schools in Shanxi province started to implement the new course experiment. Under this background, many problems inspirit our English teachers to ponder, such as how to discard the old teaching concepts, how to transfer the focus from teaching English reading to training up quality of human beings, how to make sure the reading class full of vitality and allow students to participate in the whole atmosphere of self-study, and so on.This paper, mainly based on the learning theories of cognitivism and constructivism, constructs a kind of teaching model, which is"objective-oriented,'learning program'-guided, and task-driven". This optimized model is proposed to arouse students'initiative and creativity, to cultivate students'self-learning ability and promote students'all-round development. The paper advances some problems in current reading under the background of the new course reformation. Through constructing and practicing this new teaching model, this paper aims at resolving these problems so as to optimize the English reading teaching and promote the joint development of teachers and students. As a case study, the research and teaching practice in the paper is carried out in a middle school in Shanxi Province. |
