With the development of global economy,English,as an international language,has drawn much more attention from the whole society.And for English learners,their ultimate goal of English learning is to use English to communicate with others.The latest curriculum reform of the basic education also attach much importance to spoken English.However,the situation on oral English learning is not satisfactory.A great number of senior high school students can hardly communicate with others in English.Among many factors,motivation plays a significant part in oral English learning.This thesis is aimed to integrate the ARCS motivational design model in oral English teaching with expectations to improve and sustain students learning motivation.The research consists of four stages.Firstly,teachers should analyze the students' oral proficiency and oral English learning motivation through questionnaire and oral test.Secondly,teachers should select and design some motivation-stimulating strategies such as attention strategy,relevance strategy,confidence strategy and satisfaction strategy.Thirdly,teachers should integrate the ARCS model into course design during which they can use novel teaching materials to arouse students' attention and select familiar teaching contents to make students produce the feeling of relevance.Besides,teachers should instruct students to build up confidence and help them gain satisfaction in the process of learning.At last,teachers are supposed to test students' oral ability and motivation level again and then find whether students' motivation and oral ability are improved.From the theoretical and practical perspectives,this thesis is aimed to arouse and maintain students' learning motivation,as well as give some suggestions to oral English teaching.If the teaching strategies of ARCS model are effective in improving students' oral English learning motivation,the author also hopes that these teaching strategies could be applied in the field of oral English teaching.
