In the philosophical sense, evaluation activity is a special cognitive activity, the evaluation of objective things is a mastery to the things on their own meaning and the recognition of objective things of value. The essence of the textbook evaluation is to analyze the teaching effectiveness, reliability, feasibility and effect by specific methods and approaches,and to summarize the analysis results through a certain way, so that we can conclude the overall understanding of the value of the textbooks. Since China was established, our country always attaches great importance to the quality of textbooks. However, because of a variety of reasons, the textbook evaluation in China is not mature, and the evaluation of the biological textbook is just at the primary stage. As China is a country with a large population, the economic and educational development level has a great imbalance and the level of the students and the teachers also has many differences. Therefore, along with the increasing of the textbooks, the same version of the textbook can play different roles in different places. The ability to select the most suitable textbook for students became the primary issues which the researchers and teachers need to consider.This study is divided into three parts:the first is to construct the evaluation system of middle school biology textbooks. This study attempt to constructing the evaluational index system of biology textbooks in middle school based on a wide range of evaluation theory of textbook from home and abroad.This system includes four factors, namely, whether the textbooks are suitable for the students’ age characteristics and cognitive development, whether the textbooks can arouse the students’interest in learning, whether the textbooks can pay attention to students’ learning activities (such as independent learning, cooperative learning, inquiry learning ability etc.), whether the textbooks can offer a variety of classes or extra-curricular learning resources to broaden the students’knowledge. Each factor contains several secondary indicators to establish a complete evaluation index system. The second is to set the weights of each factor in the index evaluation system of middle school biology textbooks through the distribution and recovery of the questionnaire.The third is to analyze the biology textbooks which Nanjing area is using by this evaluation system.There are some conclusions in the end:first, the psychological dimensions of development overall evaluation of Jiangsu edition biology textbooks is good. Second, the Jiangsu edition biology textbooks are also have some problems. For example, the textbooks are not closely related to the students’ real life, The average difficulty level of the textbook is not on the same level, the textbooks’ exercises don’t offer enough space to the students and the learning resource which the textbooks offer is not enough.
