The theory of multiple intelligences proposed by professor Howard Gardner in1983is one of the most advanced theory in current cognitive science and developmental psychology. In his theory, Howard Gardner viewed intelligence as "the capacity to solve problems or to fashion products that are valued in one or more cultural setting", which meets the requirement of Curriculum Reform of Fundamental Education, i.e.,"put the training of students’ practical and creative capability on the first place" and has theoretical significance in intensifying the reform of classroom teaching. It’s the requirement of current time to guide geography teaching using advanced educational theory. In this paper, I used litterateurs, surveys and experiments to study the senior high school geography teaching methods guided by the theory of multiple intelligences and proposed the suitability, principles and application ways of these methods. Several methods were studied in detail including lecture teaching method, problem solving method, case teaching method and experimental teaching method to understand how to use multiple intelligences theory in these methods.Based on the survey and analysis of students’ intelligences, I did experimental study in senior high school geography teaching use multiple intelligences theory. The conclusion is that the application of multiple intelligences theory in senior high school geography teaching will optimize teaching behaviors, teach students in accordance with their aptitude and achieve personalized teaching. Use well designed curriculum and teaching methods according to students’ dominating intelligence will promote the development of weak intelligence the same time as the dominating one and finally promote students comprehensive development and fulfill the new idea of essential-qualities-oriented education and geography curriculum reform.
