Since created in1892by Dr. James Naismith, an instructor atthe International Teenage Men’s Christian Association Training School (YMCA) inSpringfield, Massachusetts, USA, basketball has become the third most popularsport in America and ranked tenth among ball games in the world. In thedevelopment of basketball in international sports, the United States has beenplaying the leading role in the world in skills of players, training of reservepersonnel and professional coaches. Although great development has taken placein basketball sport in China, a certain gap of level is still exiting between Chinaand Euro-American countries. In order to promote the level of Chinese basketball,it is extremely necessary to learn from the experience of American basketballdevelopment and characteristics. This paper employs literature sources, interviewwith experts, field visits, system analysis and other methods. Comparisons ofmanagement, training, system competition and operation mechanism of sportssystem and education system that train basketball reserve personnel in China andthe U.S. are carried out, and related conclusions are presented.The main contents of analysis are as the following four aspects:1)Analysis of current situation of basketball reserve personnel training andcoach team composition between China and America is carried. The paper findsthat in America, the training of basketball talents follows the single mode ofprimary school–university and is focused on primary and secondary schoolsinstead of sports schools. While in China, most of the high-level athletes andcoaches are in amateur sports schools and sports teams and few of them are atordinary schools, which form a significant difference with the United States.2)Analysis of the differences between the basketball reserve personneltraining between China and America is carried out, mainly from the aspects ofsystem of social organization, management and sense of value.3)Analysis of the obstacles which have major influence upon basketballreserve personnel training in China is made, and the main factors are found to bethe flowing three aspects: system of social organization, contradicts betweeneducation and sport training, and sense of value. And the factors why basketballreserve personnel training level in China is yet to be promoted are: unscientificmanagement system, incomplete reserve training system, incomplete schoolinterior management and inexperienced coaches.4)The measures to promote basketball reserve personnel training level inChina are suggested, mainly include: strengthen the system of management, improve the school interior management, avoid uncultivated sporting in school,raise the investment of manpower, material and financial resources into this field,promote the quality of coach and level of training.Discussion and analysis of this topic is made in order to have a certainsignificance for the cultivation of reserve talents of basketball in China.
