A Study On The Historical Evolution And Development Of Dai Nationality Wushu In Yunnan Province

As early as4000years ago, the ancestors of Dai nationality lived in the southwestof China with an ancient nationality had a long history and splendid culture. Theylived and procreated along Lancang River Basin, NuRiver Basin, Jinsha River Basin,Weiyuan River Basin， Ruili River Basin and Yuan River Basin. Gentle,honest andkind Dai people created Dai martial arts combining dance and attack and defenceskills during the long historic progress of the society. It is significant to understandthat Dai culture through another channel in which an analysis on the present situationand restrictive factors of Dai martial arts is carried on and take some strategies on itwhich can put forward, on the basic understanding the social and culturalcharacteristics of Dai martial arts.The thesis talks about the forming, development and the inheritance of Dainationality in a clear and logic way by the methods of material reading, expertinterview, on-the-spot investigation, and logic analysis. The conclusion shows that itoriginated in more than3000years ago, in a special natural environment andparticular economic condition, Dai’s martial arts have formed the folk kinds of martialarts with distinctive features of religious culture, on the theoretic basis of thetraditional Chinese thoughts and Dai medical system and through the practice of laborof prucuction, military wars, folk recreations and religious activities. It has beeninfluenced by the school of Han martial arts and so as the styles of martial arts indifferent countries, like Burma, Thailand, Laos and so on. Dai martial arts containvarious movement forms and particular sport patterns, with prominent values onattack and defence skills, aesthetics, healthe care, exchange and inheritance. Atpresent, Dai martial arts have been marginalized and forgotten by people gradually,because of backwardness of economy in the regions of Dai nationality, lack of supportfrom the government, the loss of practical stages, the limit of the inheritance; thecollision of modern western sport culture and some unfair factors on seeking fameand gain in the sport competition. Therefore, the function of government should beexerted. It is necessary to work out the relavant policy of development and pay muchattention to the education. In addition, Dai martial arts can be in the curriculumobtained through the spreading and popularization of schools and colleges. In addition,Dai martial arts should be included in the system of keeping fit with the whole nation. The cultivation of the inheritors of Dai martial arts should be put into the first place.The industry of Dai martial arts can be developed. The competitive platform forexchange of minorities should be established so that Dai martial arts can be furtherlyunderstood by people in the society. At the end, though the research it can give ussome instructive suggestions in the protection and inheritance of Dai martial arts.
