Employment of college students has always been the important issue that concerned bythe government and the whole society, however, the situation of college students’employment is more and more grim, and the problems of college students’ employment arealso frequently mentioned. And now we have stepped into the consumer-oriented period, theconsumer culture has penetrated into every aspect of our lives; it not only changed ourlifestyle and consumption patterns, but also impacts our original values and affects theemployment value of college students. Under the background of consumer culture, thecollege students’ employment value has changed a lot compared with the traditional, and alsoappeared a lot of new problems. While the employment value of college students will play animportant role in the process of employment.This paper mainly uses the literature method and interview method to investigate theemployment value of college students. First, in order to understand the previous researchresults, I reviewed the relevant literature. And the next, for making the study more practical, Iinterviewed33college students that from different colleges, grades and study differentprofessions to know about the present situation of the employment value of college students,find out the problems of the employment value of college students, and analyze the reasonsthat cause the problems under the background of consumer culture, then raise thecorresponding tactics.The paper mainly includes the following four parts: The fist part mainly describes thebackground, theoretical and practical significance of the study, and collects and summarizesthe Chinese and foreign related literature, finally defines the concepts which involve in thepaper. The second part by summarizing and anal sizing the interview results of the33collegestudents to expound the present situation of the employment value of college students, andfocuses on discourse the positive aspect and problems of the employment value of collegestudents under the background of consumer culture, including their employment attitude,employment motivation, employment expectation, employment values orientation and waysof employment. The third part analysis the characteristics of consumer culture, includingadvocating consumption, emphasizing on individuality and subjective selectivity, persuadingmaterial interests and pragmatic, emphasizing enjoyment and easy to generated mentality ofpea cocking and comparisons. And combined with these characteristics, discusses the mainly reasons that producing the problems of the employment value of college students under thebackground of consumer culture from four aspects: society, college, family and collegestudents themselves. The fourth part, contrary to the problems of the four aspects, putsforward the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions, in order to provide some helpthat can make college students are able to establish a positive and correct employment valueand ultimately get employed smoothly.
