Since the Sino-Thai cooperated’Chinese Volunteered Teacher Program’began in2003, Chinese teaching has spread into schools, including nursery, primary, secondary, high schools and universities, and to every person in the society. In the previous studies about Thais’strategy of learning Chinese, the participants are mostly chosen from Thai overseas students in China and students majored in Chinese in Thai universities. While, the studies on Chinese learning strategies of other Thai Chinese-learners are not rich, especially Thai students in high school.This dissertation will use questionnaire, interviewing or other research methods to study learning strategies. The participants are students majored in Chinese from three different grades of Patong Prathankiriwat School in Thailand. Through the research, I found that the Chinese learning strategies of Thai students in high school are varied according to each person. Furthermore, I made analysis and discussions in details and accordingly provided teaching suggestions for Chinese teachers in Thai.There are five chapters in the dissertation. It gives the background of study and the reason of choosing this topic in Chapter I. In Chapter II, I review the theories about strategies of learning2nd languages and summaries the domestic and overseas research findings. In Chapter III, it introduces the study plan and the process of collecting data. The analysis of data will be shown in Chapter IV. I made a comprehensive analyzing about general strategies participants used; and compared their genders, years of studying, cultural backgrounds, learning motivations and other factors may influence their Chinese-learning strategies. In the last Chapter, I made a conclusion according to the experience of teaching Chinese abroad and put forward some suggestions for teaching Thai students of high school Chinese. I believe the study of this paper will provide some thinking and suggestions for teaching Chinese in Thailand. At the same time, this paper also helps those who are learning Chinese in Thai high schools to choose appropriate learning strategy based on their own conditions.
