| With the promotion of economic globalization, China’s national power has been continuously improved. Countries around the world, in order to strengthen the close ties with China, have started off a "learning Chinese" boom globally. As an important tool for communication between the other countries and China, Chinese language has become more and more valued by various countries, especially the ASEAN countries. The questions of how to learn Chinese effectively for Chinese learners in different countries and how to improve the quality of Chinese teaching for Chinese teachers, have become the focus of attention in the work of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Based on the theory of learning style, and by selecting the high school students of Uthong schools in Thailand as the subjects of investigation, the present study employs the methods of questionnaire, classroom observation and interviews to carry out an in-depth investigation for the Thai high school students who are learning Chinese. It attempts to investigate the tendency of Thai students’learning style about Chinese, and explore the Thai national characteristics, thereby discovering the correlation between learning style and national character, to provide teaching strategies and suggestions for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.According to the results of the questionnaires, the general characteristics for Thai students’learning style about Chinese are as follows. The perception of Chinese learning styles includes the type of aural, tactile and kinesthetic. These types of learning style are mainly affected by the influence of religious culture and other multicultural, resulting from Thai students’open thinking and innovative spirit, and also versatile, lively, passionate traits. Social learning style about Chinese is the type of group learning. Affected by the factors such as the social, survival or economic environment in long-term, containing have the nature of loving peace, solidarity and friendship, and helping each other, Thai students prefer to adopt cooperative way of learning. Through observation and analysis, we can see that the learning style of Thai high school students is greatly influenced by the national character. Therefore, in the student-centered Chinese teaching, we should combine the Thai characteristics of learning style based on their national character, with the teaching style so as to essentially improve teaching quality. |
