After the failure of China in the first opium war, Christian missionaries depended on the military and economic strenth of Western powers to open Chinese gate.In line with the unequal treaty, missionaries established churches,hospitals, and schools, planning to spread the Christianity in China. Until the1870s, primary schools account for a large propotion of Christian school, and the courses are plain, so they couldn’t attract the people in China. However, over a long period of hard time, Christian preachers realized that Confucianism were ineradicable.After the1870s, Christian missionaries gradually found that Chinese people ascribed the constant loss of the external wars to the backward in science and technology,so they were extremely thirst for knowledge of science and technology. Just to please chinese, Christian missionaries gradually introduced a lot of Western Christian high school curriculum to China, and set up a large displines, such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, meteorology and other animal,even plant science and natural science courses, they intended by the name of science gradually to capture Chinese people’s heart, make the dissemination of the Christian gospel easier.This paper studies the natural science curriculum Christian School in the period of late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. It introduces the category of natural science courses, causes of establishment, and the use of textbooks for each subject and written case. This article expected evaluate, non-biased, the natural science courses setting in Christian secondary schools in the period of late Qing Dynasty and early republic of China.There are four sections in my thesis, as follows:The first section, this section is prolegomena,which focus on the research background, the meaning and hodiernal status of research in domestic and overseas, and introduced the main research methods and, and four related concepts are defined.The second section, this section summarizes the curriculum of Christian secondary schools generally in the period of late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. summarizes the development progress of Christian secondary schools in the two diffrent periods,and sketch out the curriculum of Christian secondary schools from fragmental stage to a consistent stage.The third section, this section further introduces natural science courses of Christian secondary schools in the period of late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China. the cause and effet of setting up the natural science curriculum, the specific displine of natural science curriculum centered on the physical, Use of teaching material and compiled institutions, the pattern and means of instruction of natural science courses.The fourth section, this section focuses on the evaluation of the natural science curriculum of Christian secondary school in the period of late Qing Dynasty and early republic of China. According to the description above, the evaluation of the natural science courses of Christian secondary school in the period of late Qing Dynasty and early republic of China are as follow:the setting up of natural science courses of Christian secondary school, impact the Chinese Confucianism as the main traditional education; The introduction of natural science courses of Christian secondary school, stimulated Chinese neoteric education,finnaly lead to the emergence and development of neoteric education; The Setting up of natural science courses of Christian secondary school, satisfies the demands for the development of neoteric Chinese society; Natural science courses of Christian secondary school has its own limitations.
