In the process of rapid urbanization, floating population gather in the city and integrate with city life gradually. Urban floating population’s housing problem is increasingly becoming a serious social problem. To analyze urban floating population’s housing problem from the perspective of the space is becoming a new hot spot. The paper will discuss how to improve urban floating population’s inhabitation management and urban planning in order to guide floating population better adapt to the current urbanization by analyzing their residential spatial pattern and choice behavior of residential space.Floating population’s residential spatial pattern is the feature of their residence reflecting on the space. The choice behavior of residential space is a microscopic basis for determining the residential spatial pattern. The study is to focus on the following sections:(1) We would find that urban floating population’s residential spatial pattern shows residential suburbanization and residential agglomeration by analyzing the6th National Population Census Data.(2) A utilization of Cluster Analysis sorts urban floating population’s residential spatial pattern in order to show its diversity and differences.(3) Analyze the influence factors on the choice of residential space and its mechanism by constructing an empirical model in order to reveal the intrinsic logics of the division of floating population’s residential spatial pattern. This paper put forward some basic conclusions after analyzing floating population’s residential spatial pattern and the influence factors on their choice behavior of residential space in Shanghai.(1) Urban floating population’s residential spatial pattern has a feature of residential suburbanization, and the "floating population growth pole" continues to extend from suburbs to outer suburban district.(2) Residential agglomeration, which shows non-equilibrium and complementarity, is a characteristic feature of urban floating population’s residential spatial pattern. The low residential agglomeration is in the center urban area and outer suburban district, and the high residential agglomeration is in urban-suburb areas. In the suburbs, the residential agglomeration is strengthening.(3) The division between different residential space is growing.Different groups of urban floating population appear the residential spatial differences outstandingly, and the spatial differences of floating population’s housing factors show regularity.(4) Urban floating population’s residential spatial pattern shows diversity and differences, and could be divided into six types of residential area. Different type of residential area owns its distinctive space characteristics. Floating population’s residential space structure trends towards fragmentation.(5) Employment, housing and micro-individual factors are three key factors affecting floating population’s choice behavior of residential space. Occupation type, income level, housing cost and housing source are those remarkable factors.(6) In order to guide floating population better adapt to the current urbanization, urban floating population’s inhabitation management system and urban planning need some adjustment. Accord-ing to urban floating population’s choice behavior of residential space and residential spatial pattern, build the differential residence supply mode, and thereby enhance their residence welfare.
