With the new reformation of China Advanced Level Examination, English became the first subject to reform. Lower grades, changes of topics made English education draw public’s attention again. “What to teach” “How to teach” became very popular topics within publics again. According to the New English Language Curriculum Standards, culture and language have a great relationship. In order to deepen the understanding of Chinese culture, expend the vision of culture, form the cultivation of cultural awareness and the ability of the cultivation of cultural awareness, English education should promote student’s understanding of western culture. In the implement proposal, Standards points out that teachers should lead students to notice the culture factors among the pronunciation and pragmatic, realize the common and difference between Chinese and English. Students can also gain the ability during the process of cross-cultural activities.This study investigates and analyzes the questions of the cultivation of intercultural awareness in primary school. The first part shows the original, influence, main contents and problems. Defining the definitions of culture, cross-cultural awareness, the cross-cultural awareness in New English Language Curriculum Standards and fertilization of culture. The second part is the summarize of the developments and investigation about cross-cultural awareness education in China and Foreign countries. The investigation shows that students are weak in intercultural knowledge and don’t have certain acknowledgment about the cultural knowledge of English-speaking countries. Most of them gain these knowledge outside classes. English teachers have high intercultural awareness. But during the classroom observations, most teachers tend to ignore culture teaching or intercultural communication, and pay more attention to language skills or pronunciation teaching.According to the analyzes of the studies, author put forward some practical suggestions which are beneficial to the cross-cultural awareness teaching, such as:take full advantage of teaching materials; establish cultural atmosphere in classes; promote cultural exchange and experience the cultural differences; expand vocabulary teaching and realize abundant intensions of foreign culture.
