English Textbooks are the embodiment of the idea of the English curriculum standard, the primary carrier of English teaching, the focus and center of English curriculum implementation. The English-textbooks analysis has always been highly valued by English teaching practitioners,they carefully carry out a large amount of analysis and research on all kinds of English Textbooks from various perspectives, However, few of them have comprehensive comparative analysis on specific English Textbooks from the perspective of design concepts.Considering the condition above,the paper will carry out comparative analysis between New Concept English which has been widely used in teaching and Heilongjiang compulsory education textbooks, EEC Junior English which imported from the United States from the perspective of design concepts, with the object of study from the textbooks for primary stage,using both quantitative and qualitative ways,trying to study and analyze from three points of view as situation, discourse, level,hoping to bring the enlightenment on compiling of domestic textbooks and help the development toward perfect, comprehensive、pragmatic.Upon the study and comparison between New Concept English and EEC Junior English,characteristics of both kinds of textbooks were found respectively. Upon the analysis of situation,New Concept English is one lesson with one situation,the arrangement is relatively simple,while EEC Junior English is one unit with one situation,the content arrangement is rich;Upon the analysis of discourse, the grammar, text, exercise of New Concept English are closely connected with each other,the design is appropriate,while the design of EEC Junior English is relatively loose,the text and exercise are badly connected;Upon the analysis of level,the levels of New Concept English are arranged properly,the ability of listening, speaking, reading, writing can be strengthened comprehensively, while the levels of EEC Junior English are in discontinuous arrangement,the correlation is relatively poor.Thus, it is clear that, New Concept English is for the learners who want to strengthen the basic sentence patterns, sort out the grammar, and enhance the ability of writing. EEC Junior English is a kind of English Learning textbooks in campus which specifically have the exercises to improve the ability of listening, speaking and comply with the new curriculum standard of China.
