With the continuous reform of education, the openness of Chinese language education has attracted more and more attention. However, the increasing attention to its openness also make people ignore another important property of Chinese textbooks--certainty. So far, most of our researches about the certainty of Chinese textbooks is negative, which does no good to the preparation nor the application of teaching textbooks..This paper attempts to focus on the certainty of Chinese language textbooks,hoping to bring some practical help to the compilation and application of its teaching materials. The paper is divided into three chapters:Two questions risen by the current excessive emphasis on the openness of Chinese language textbooks: 1 Lack of standards and system. Both the content and the design of the textbooks are arbitrary. 2 Arduousness of teaching preparation. Research shows that teaching preparation costs a lot of time and teachers’ key points differ from each other, which cause the arduousness. In my opinion, enhancing the certainty of textbooks can solve these two problem.Two versions of textbooks, Chinese and American, are compared in three section,general, reading and writing. It shows that American version has higher certainty in both context and standard of teaching materials.The second chapter is to compare Chinese textbooks published by Shanghai Educational Publishing House with two sets of language textbooks named “Literature”for grade seven published by US Mc Dougal Littell in the aspects of openness and determinacy, and then mainly to discuss the following three sections. The first section is to describe the general outlines of language textbooks in Chinese version and American version. The second section is to present the status by comparing thelanguage textbooks of Chinese version and American version in course content, and to define that language textbook of American version is higher than that of Shanghai Educational Publishing House in the determinacy to present course content. In addition to the different ideas of teaching materials from the organizers, the course standard in California has a lot to do with US system of textbook selection. The third section is to take the comparison of writing part in language textbooks of the two versions as an example, and to analyze the status of teaching content in language textbooks of the two versions, and to conclude that the language textbook of American version is higher than that of Chinese version in the determinacy to present teaching content.The third chapter is to put forward the suggestions to properly enhance the determinacy of language textbook published by Shanghai Educational Publishing House, in according to the high openness and low determinacy of language textbook published by Shanghai Educational Publishing House. The first is the teaching materialization of course content, clearly reflecting the course content in textbook.The second is the teaching of textbook content, providing teachers and students with teaching direction. The third is to pay attention to the degree of determinacy, leaving room for the creation of teachers and students. According to the suggestions, it tries to design the writing textbook about the figure description, presenting the method to enhance the determinacy of language textbook, so as to practice the related theories in the form of proofs.
