The aim of this article is to present and discuss the openness of music teaching and leaning. My thesis, "Teaching pop music in classroom", which studies if teacher should teach contemporary pop music in Chinese ordinary middle school.Firstly, based on historical studies, after Chinese government has pursued reform and open policy, the western pop music started to dominate Chinese market. Today, pop music is wildly getting into students' day-to-day life. As a result, if contemporary pop-music should be lead into middle-school classroom is wildly discussed by music educators.Secondly, based on the questionnaire survey to 30 music teachers in 18 middle school and students from 600 music lessons in 6 middle schools in Chongqing, the research indicates:Most the middle school music teachers like the pop music. The pop music resources for middle school are not sufficient; in addition, most pop music materials have negative effect on students.The teachers like pop music. And they are looking forward too see that pop music will be integrated into music book. The middle-school student as a whole likes the pop music extremely.Most students do not like traditional music lesson in school.The students hope the more pop music materials integrated into music lesson.The students' understanding regarding pop music is very shallow. In addition, the students thought that their own parents are against them learning pop music.Thirdly, analyzes, regarding the pop music integrates the middle school music lesson, indicate that the current middle school music lesson exists:The music lesson cannot satisfy the student and teacher's need.The music lesson does not have the pop music to maintain the openness.The music lesson has not been able to manifest the concepts of contemporary education. It specially lacks the following concepts:The students are also important teaching resources. The teaching material is the model as well as intermediary between teacher and students; Adopts teaching method that the teachers and students converse; The teacher forms the independent career development consciousness and ability.Further analyzes believed, regarding integrating pop music into the middle school classroom and maintaining the openness of contemporary music education, the students, the teacher and the parents have their own perspectives. As a result, it has demonstrated: The contradiction between the crazily fascinating of the students and the disaster theory of the guardians. The contradiction between the multi-dimensional pursue of the students and the single orientation of the guardians. The contradictions between the positive anticipates from the students and the conservative manners from the guardians. Analyzes for music education in American and German indicates that the openness of middle school music education is obvious in western industrial country. Therefore, many pop music materials are in the music book of the western industrial countries. Based on the studies of the middle school students' characteristics, the pop music is very helpful for the growth of the middle school students both physically and psychologically.Finally, in the middle school music teaching practice, based on the openness concepts, proposed methods must persist the moderate principle, such as selective principle, guidance principle. The educator must pay attention in practices in the following respects:Correctly understand the function of pop music.The teacher must have a good understanding of the pop music.Choose health pop music resources and materials.Develop in-class as well as outside-class methods.Develop the methods and technologies to integrate pop music to into classroom.
