Mt.Qingcheng, which is on the edge of Chengdu Plain,is a famous mountains and Taoist sacred land in the a “Yi-Xi”boundary of the world.During the Eastern Han Dynasty,Zhangling created Taoism with the combination of Taoist thought and the primitive sorcery in the Ba-Shu area.Thus,Mt.Qingcheng became the birthplace of Taoism and was seen as “the fifth cave” worshipped by the Taoism. In the earlier history,Mt.Qingcheng was the ancestor-worshipped place of Shu People, and then the Yangtze-worshipped temple. It's identity converted from the local sacred mountain to a mountain listed in the state's system of mountains and rivers. These not only show the Multiple faces of Mt.Qingcheng, but also reflect the symbolism of the imperial mountains in the imperial period. In addition, the legend of “Huangdi Asked Tao” and the annual rituals held by the Taoism temples in Mt.Qingcheng jointly presents the magical characteristics of the mountain. In this sense,Mt Qingcheng has its inner closer. However, the ritual process of Taoism crepes and the pilgrimage of people also show that MT.Qingcheng has an open possibility. And the way people look upon Mt.Qingcheng in modern times has already changed, and its emphasis is on the nature of the landscape itself. This paper attempts to analyze the characteristics of the closure and openness of Mt.Qingcheng in the perspective of historical anthropology, and to understand the modernity of mountains and rivers with the thoughts of Deism. In the first part of the thesis, this study will analyze the historical position of the Mt.Qingcheng and sacrifice tradition in the ancient Shu kingdom.Through the annual rituals in the Taoist temples and the myth contained in the mountain landscape we will discuss Mt.Qingcheng and its relationship with the empire. This analysis will point out how Mt.Qingcheng contributed to build a social system as a local sacred place. The second part, this research will focus on analyzing the rites of passage in Taoism and pilgrimages. The free spirit and the morals are discussed in this part.In the third part, the thesis mainly illustrates that Deism has changed the way people think about nature and Mt.Qingcheng's image in people's mind. And Mt.Qingcheng still play a role in social life.In conclusion, through the study of myth, ritual, history,we can see the change of social status and concept of Mt.Qingcheng, and thus reflecting the structure of Chinese history and the transformation process of people's mental structure.
