NIE, the abbreviation of Newspaper in Education, refers to a kind of curriculum design in which teachers take newspaper as teaching materials in various subjects according to demand of tuition. Newspaper is comprehensive, which not only overcomes the shortcomings of textbook, but also shortens the temporal and spatial distance between textbook with the reality. For Newspaper in Education, newspaper is not only the material of literacy training of media, but also the material that is used by teachers teaching different subjects and possessing various advantages to impart carious kinds of knowledge by virtue of the diversity and plurality of newspaper.Based on such recognition, newspaper reaches NIE with schools, that is, newspaper cooperates with schools. Newspaper office provides newspaper for schools, and even some ones provide reference books for those teachers who participate in the cooperation. NIE is popular among many countries, but it has limited impact on china.Compared with the NIE in other countries, it has a relatively long history in America and develops to be mature. Therefore, American NIE is representative. As the earliest Asian country that is influenced by American to develop NIE, Japan shows some distinguishing features in terms of NIE, which deserve to be learned by china. The Taiwan’s NIE as the representative of the localization also possesses something endowing reference and enlightenment for us.One of the objectives of this paper is to summarize and introduce the histories of development of American, Japanese wand Taiwan’s NIE. The other objective is to discuss the feasibility to implement NIE in china.The structure of this paper is as following: the first chapter introduces the motivation, background, objectives and methods of research and learns about the status of research at home and abroad by virtue of literature review. The second chapter presents the conception, objectives and functions, history, curriculum design and teaching strategies of NIE. The third chapter is the key chapter of this paper, which mainly introduces American and Japanese NIE’s development, status and features and at its end, the status and features of Taiwan NIE under the American and Japanese influence. The forth chapter returns to the mainland of china, discusses the development status of NIE and analyzes the feasibility of implementing NIE in future.
