Value Loss And Value Anomie

The society keeps developing at top speed since the reform and opening up policy implemented. Economy, culture and people’s life changes minute to minute, which leads to diversified values. Although diversified values bring vitality into social life, it brings huge shock and challenges to effective communication and social effect of mainstream values. “Post-90s” college students are major force of future society. Their values are an important part of mainstream values and have incalculable impact on both themselves and the development of society. The 18 th CPC National Congress proposed to cultivate positive and healthy social mindset and to practice socialist core values. President Xi has emphasized that youth values decide values of society. The youth are in the critical period of value formation, which attaches great importance to youth value cultivation. “Post-90s” college students are standing at the front edge of the age. They are enthusiastic about experiencing and accepting new things. As their mind is lingering between childishness and maturity, they are not able to evaluate things in a proper way. In other words, their views on life are still unformed. It is necessary to offer proper guidance to help them establish correct values and tell them how to see themselves, see the society and see the world.In order to understand these “Post-90s” college students, this paper adopts questionnaire to analyze their views on life. The results show that most of the “Post-90s” college students are positive while some are not. The positive side is mainly shown in agreement with traditional struggling spirit and guidance of dreams. They also have rational attitude towards life and keep the belief that community is above self-interest. The pessimistic aspects in this paper are called “weightlessness of value” and “anomie of value”. “Weightlessness of value” means “Post-90s” college students have cognitive contradiction. They agree with mainstream values but agree with subvalues at the same time and fail to make unity of knowledge and action. Specifically, they agree with two conflicting expressions. “Anomie of value” means people do not have common values or cannot make decision or evaluation on certain expressions. In this investigation,it is showed in the “uncertainty” option.Thanks to the promotion of mainstream values, construction of spiritual civilization and socialistic culture, the youth have the opportunity to inherit fine tradition and grow in harmonious culture atmosphere. However, due to their own characteristics and external environment, “weightlessness of value” and “anomie of value” exist.There are three external reasons to explain these phenomena: first, intermingled ethos is too difficult for youth to discriminate; second, improper education of family and school encourages utilitarianism and leads to the lack of cost consciousness and practice consciousness; third, deconstruction of traditional and modern demonstrative personality and lack of contemporary models aggravate belief vacuum confusion. Thus, it is important to promote socialist core value, optimize education, cultivate beliefs, rebuild culture ecology and strength self-education to help the “Post-90s” college students form correct views on life.In this paper, “weightlessness of value” and “anomie of value” will be categorized into subculture. There are two reasons for category: first, “weightlessness of value” and “anomie of value” are deviating from mainstream culture; second, college students are sub-culture group. It is believed that “weightlessness of value” and “anomie of value”, as sub-culture phenomenon, will raise a claim that mainstream culture should increase its diversity. On the other hand, if guidance makes sense, sub-culture will enrich mainstream culture and strengthen its vitality. Objectively, mainstream culture will relieve tension by incorporation and guiding sub-culture. By the positive interaction, mainstream culture and sub-cultural may find a harmonious way to co-exist.
