Grandparenting is a common phenomenon which exist in many countries and areas, especially in China. Most of the elders look after children of their children’s in China, and they take it as a responsibility of their own because of the societal expectation and Chinese culture. Social change makes women devote more time to work in today, in other word, less time to their families. A woman’s place in the home is changed. Because of the lack of professional children care facilities, grandparents have to take the responsibility. Grandparents who parent grandchildren can get support from government, social welfare organizations, social workers et al..in many developed countries or areas, because they have higher level social welfare than China, Grandparents who parent grandchildren in China can not. Actually there are a lot parenting courses, especially those based on behaviorism help most of parents in parenting their children. A lot of studies show that grandparents who parent their grandchildren are between 55 and 65 years old. They are able to learn many new things, including parenting skills which was exactly this study going to do. This study verified the result of a social work program which was about grandparents learning behaviorism-based parenting skills. This program carried out through group courses and home visiting. The Conners’ Parent Symptom Questionnaire and Conners’ Teacher Rating Scale are applied in this study. This research proved that grandparents could learn parenting skills to raise grandchildren well.
