Poverty, as a worldwide problem and focus, has always been the area which thegovernment of each country and academic concerns. Particularity of universities formed thecomplexity of poor university students’ problems. With the changes in Chinese society andChinese system reform in depth, the number of university students increased. At the sametime, the number of poor students is also increasing. As universities of Guizhou located in thewestern provinces which are “underdeveloped and less developed”, the proportion of studentsfrom poor rural areas increased, that leaded to the problems of poor university studentsparticularly prominent. Indeed, Party and government introduced a series of funded policiesand measures in order to protect the poor students from being deprived of education. However,due to the subjective and objective aspects, the problems of poor university students not yetbeen completely solved. While, the problems of college students solved or not, not onlyrelated to poor students’ growth and success, but also related to fairness and justice of thesocial, stability and harmony of the state and society. Therefore, the study of Guizhou pooruniversity students’ ideological and political education will undoubtedly have a significantacademic and theoretical value, but also has profound practical significance.Based on the understanding above, Firstly, this paper based on clearing the background,respondents, research objectives, research methods and significance, defined thepoverty-related concepts, and analyzed its content, then explored commonalities between thepoor university students in Guizhou and the national Poor University Students and itspersonality. Secondly, in order to grasp the first hand information of poor university studentsin Guizhou, this paper carried out a detailed investigation and study through the form ofinterviews and questionnaire. Based on the analysis of the survey data, summarized itsproblems, and attribution analysis of their problems from the community, schools, familiesand themselves. Finally, proposed reasonable suggestions for poor university students’ideological and political education in Guizhou. Recommendation: social aspects: first, wemust speed up economic development and tackle poverty at its source; second, enterprisesmust play their due effect on society; third, we must improve the "humane care" type of socialsupport system. Universities aspects: first, establish poor students’ subsidize supervision team;second, we must attach importance to the construction of high-quality full-time counselors;third, all grades teaching methods adapted to local conditions, then established theeducational quality health index evaluation system; finally, innovative work-study form.Family aspects: first, update family values and education mode; second, parents must strengthen ties with the counselor, grasp the child status moderately; third, parents muststrengthen communication with their children, and turn the pressure to release the pressure.Their own aspects: first, they must face up to the poor and others’ helping; second, they muststrengthen the expression of gratitude and sense of integrity; third, improve their capabilities.
