Chemistry:Concepts and Applications is one of the Discovery Science series, Discovery Science was published by The McGraw-Hil Companies. According to the data provided by Yuying Guo who is the secretary-general of The Society of High School Physics Teaching which is one of the Chinese Education Society’s branch. The usage percentages of this set of textbooks reached 30% to 47%. So it’s the mainstream textbook in America. It was published by Zhejiang Education Publishing House in China. Its release attracted growing attention in chinese educational circles.Corresponding to receptive learning, autonomous learning is a modern learning mode. It takes students as the major character of the study, in this process, students achieve the learning objectives by independent exploration, practice, creation, query and other methods.The new curriculum advocates independent learning, inquiry learning and cooperative learning. The textbook is products of the course. And the textbook is the main tool for teachers and students to carry out teaching activities, it can reflect objectives and content of the course concretely. Therefore, the study is to analyze the teaching materials on the cultivation of students’ autonomous learning ability.The main content of this thesis includes two parts.The first part is to establish the system for the analysis of the textbook, which is based on the cultivation of autonomous learning ability.The analysis system break the original analysis model based on curriculum standards. It takes the thought of training students’ autonomous learning ability as the basic point, and the analysis of textbook generally conducts on two dimensions (content characteristics and teaching characteristics) with the guidance of the curriculum standard. So the first part of the establishment of evaluation system is focused on the research of how to cultivate students’ autonomous learning ability. Firstly, through the literature analysis, we will find out the factors that affect the autonomous learning ability of students. Secondly, we will analyze the function of textbook in the process of students’ autonomous learning, which requirements will the textbook to meet if the textbook can plays an important role in promoting the students’ autonomous learning.These requirements is the second level of the analysis ’system. Then we will elaborate the second level, that is the complete dimension. Finally, we can establish and perfect the evaluation system with cultivating students’ autonomous learning ability as the goal.The second part is to analyze the textbook based on the system.We will analyze the textbook from two aspects:its the content and its presentation and treatment. In the process of analysis, we will take overall-part-overall way in each part, that is to point out the central idea idea firstly, and than analyze them in more detail; finally, make a summary.The principal conclusions of this analysis are as follows.If you want students to have a strong desire for study, the content in the textbook should be interesting and valuable, and the picture and its accompanying essay are both excellent, and its expression is readable easy to understand, and it should conduct humanity infiltration.In addition the contents of the textbook should follow the law of students’cognitive development, so its difficulty is appropriate. And pay attention to the integrity and logicality. Finally, the textbook should guide students to achieve learning methods. Learning strategies are the optimization of the scientific methods. Therefore, the textbook should make full use of the scientific methods, and then train the students to master learning strategies in the textbook.And there are many places where we can draw on Chemistry:Concepts and Applications, such as its style. The creation of situation makes students closer to life. In addition, these columns in the textbook is also worth learning from, such as wonderful trailer, exam tips and ChemistBesides, it can provide useful suggestions for the high school chemistry teaching. Such as We can choose the model and appropriate scientific methods in the teaching of abstract concepts, and introduces the concept of science in detail.
