Nowadays, "Girls’ advantage" and "Boys’ crisis" are hot topics in the educational field. With the increasing social concerns on the issues of educational gender equity, there exists a growth in the anxieties caused by "Girls’ advantage" and "Boys’ crisis". Besides, the topic of investigating boys’ crisis and girls’ advantage reality situations also attracts lots of controversies. Thus, researches on "Girls’ advantage" and "Boys’ crisis" has great significance both in theory and practice. On one side, this research is good for further study on educational phenomenon, educational gender differences, social gender, etc. On the other side, the research is also has benefits on rethinks of present educational policies and practices, practices of social gender mainstreams and the orderly development of country and society.With the purpose of specifying how "Girls’ advantage" and "Boys’crisis" are proposed and distinguishing whether "Girls’ advantage" and "Boys’ crisis" are truths or myths, this paper applies the theory of gender to study "Girls’ advantage" and "Boys’ crisis", supported by document analysis, questionnaire surveys, interview surveys, etc. Research shows that " Girls’ advantage" theory and "Boys’ crisis" theory are actually myths which are adult conjectures for the girls and boys guided by logical pitfalls such as zero-sum gender comprehensions, incoordinate gender comparisons and identical gender definitions. The generation of this kind of myth is due to the social construction, in which the cultural traditions of mass media, patriarchy, the scientific research systems and the education systems together constitute the main part of "Girls’ advantage" and "Boys’ crisis" theories. Consequently, this also provide a new direction for the query, criticism and response of those theories.This paper emphasizes on presenting gender essentialism, school education resources and career development which bring the female injustices and barriers. By the comprehension of the gender essentialism for "Girls’ advantage" and "Boys’ crisis" and the specific analysis of jobs acquisitions, career development and the working income differences between boys and girls, the author proves that girls are not inferior to boys, school education resources are not more conducive to girls’ advantage academic development and girls’ advantage career development are not better than boys’ crisis overall. To promote the development of gender equality and build a harmonious coexistence environment for men and women, the regeneration of culture, education and society must be done, the construction of gender equity culture and space should be accelerated and gender sensitive education need to be implemented.
