Geographical map is the second language of learning geography, reflecting the professional value of geography and students’ spatial imagination ability. "The basic skills of reading and using maps and geographic chart" is the basic requirement of new curriculum standard.Map capability, using spatial imagination ability, and getting useful information from the map quickly, is a comprehensive application of geographical knowledge. Junior middle students are trained to improve the map ability and efficiency of geography class on reading, analyzing, drawing and migration. Map is a tool for students autonomic learning and help them improve living ability.This study adopts the method of comprehensive research, mainly for action research, literature research, investigation, interview method and other auxiliary. In junior middle school, geography teaching in training students’ map capability as the research object, study the teaching practice deeply, make full use of map, implement geographical knowledge in image. To change the complex geography and language into a visual image, help students aware of geography subjects and phenomena directly, set up all kinds of complete geographical image in mind.Feasible practice can be designed so that students learn geography actively rather than accepting it passively, explore geography in cooperation rather than learning it independently. Form a standard habit of map reading,drawing and analyzation, carry out after-school interest groups and research activities stratified by digitizing hardware. Students are trained to extract useful information from map, analyze and solve problems by map, improve spatial thinking skills and build a map in mind. Have a summary of map methods and strategies for discussion and reference in teaching practice.
