The21st century is the era of information explosion; all information is multifarious, changing every day. People get the message through various channels, of which more than80%is obtained through the visual channel. It is self-evident that reading has great significance forour study, work and life. For hearing-impaired students, reading is not only an important waythey get information, but also their necessary ability to return to the mainstream of society.Compared with healthy students, the level of reading ability has greater impact on their academic, educational level, the quality of life and social development. Chinese occupied the largestproportion, including the teaching of reading accounts for a large proportion, but the actual effectis unsatisfactory. In view of this situation, I research hearing-impaired students in junior high Schools for theDeaf in Qingdao (including Central deaf ministry), use the form of questionnaires and interviewsaround the reading status. Through the collection, collation and analysis of data, I make adetailed analysis of Qingdao junior hearing impaired students ’reading levels and reading habits, and I find out the factors that influence the hearing impaired students’ reading levels, and putforward the corresponding countermeasures. I hope this research can provide constructive advicefor language teachers in junior high school for the Deaf, and encourage them to improveteaching strategies to help hearing-impaired students improve reading comprehension. The paper is divided into four parts. First chapter analyzes the background and significanceof the topic, describes the present situation of research on this subject, the definition of relatedconcepts. The second chapter introduces the research object, research methods and processes.Chapter III is the survey results and analysis. Through the Schools for the Deaf in Qingdao(including Central deaf ministry), I investigate the reading level of hearing-impaired students toobtain reliable data on the back of the questionnaire with systematical statistics, collation, analysis, and made an in-depth analysis of factors that affect the reading ability ofhearing-impaired students. Chapter IV is countermeasures and suggestions. I suggest to stimulatehearing-impaired students’ interest in reading through activity as a starting point; to create astrong reading atmosphere for the hearing-impaired students by multi teamed together; toimprove hearing-impaired students in reading comprehension by taking full advantage of thelanguage classroom; to train hearing impaired students good reading habits through curricular and extra-curricular. To teach the hearing-impaired students reading to follow the teaching ofreading in deaf characteristics. To focus on the "read-oriented" and deepen understanding; toemphasis on "student-centered", individualized; to focus on the use of modern technology tocreate a situation; to combine thinking training and improve logical thinking. This part is to studythe practical level.
