| Biology is an important natural science course that the students need to learn at the stage of senior high school and it is also an integral part to cultivate the students comprehensively. To improve students’ efficency in the biology class is a continuous pursuit of the educators. Learning motivation is the power to stimulate students to learn, any efficient learning begins with a proper learning motivation.Learning motivation can be divided into the external motivation and internal motivation. In general, high school students’ external motivation is significantly higher than that of internal learning motivation. How to make use of the education theory and strategy associated with learning motivation to stimulate is a necessary problem for us as education workers.In many theory related to learning motivation, psychology professor of American University of Florida Keller J M put forward a ARCS Model of Motivation and Design which has attracted more and more people’s attention. The theory pointed out that four factors could influence students’ learning motivation, that is attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction. Keller J M has made a lot of concrete strategies on basis of the above factors to enhance students’ learning motivation efficiently. It not only plays an important role in inspiring students’ learning motivation but also provide a theoretical foundation to conduct teaching design for teachers.After four months teaching practice, this paper apply ARCS Model of Motivation and Design to high school biology.This paper could inspire students’ learning motivation and improve the efficiency of biology teaching. We had carried out an experiment in four class of first-year Xinhua high school and applied ARCS Model of Motivation and Design in the experimental class and the normal strategy in the control class. Compared the data and testing score before and after experiment, it was found that the learning motivation and score in experiment class had been improved to some extent. As a result, ARCS Model of Motivation and Design could stimulate students’ learning motivation and improve scholastic attainment. Besides, this model has a certain suitability and it worths spreading in high school biology teaching. |
