This paper focuses on inquiry lessons in high school history compulsory textbooks. Due to various factors, exploration activities are often ignored by the teachers, which is totally contrary to what the new curriculum advocated---"autonomous learning, cooperative inquiry". The purpose of this paper is to attach the necessity and significance to exploration activities in history class, to promote normal development of this kind of class and lead teachers and students to change their traditional ideas. The whole paper is divided into the following three sections:Part Ⅰ:a brief introduction to history inquiry lessons in high school, including the concept, types and functions of inquiry lessons. Try to realize the necessity and importance of inquiry lessons in history teaching.Part Ⅱ:survey on the practice of inquiry lessons of textbooks published from people’s education press. Firstly, through the questionnaires and interviews with students and teachers, try to understand the present situation of inquiry lessons as well as their confusion and related suggestions. Then I analyze the result of the survey to put forward some factors affecting the development of inquiry lessons. On this basis, I come up with some related recommendations and principles.Part Ⅲ:the author’s practice. Together with the teachers in my school, I spent three years practicing inquiry lessons. We made good preparations for every class, encouraged students to take an active part in class and established multi-evaluation mechanism. Meanwhile, we found students promoted in their cooperation awareness, inquiry ability, creativity, language expression capacity and practice capacity. On this basis, I actively promote inquiry lessons, at the same time, I present some students’ homework and their personal understanding.
