The three-dimensional objective has been introduced as an essential part to the new English curriculum standards. The objective of three dimensions, i.e. knowledge and skills, process and steps as well as emotional attitude and values, works as a whole. The relationship among the three ingredients lies in three aspects. Firstly, the objective of knowledge and skills plays a fundamental role, with which students are likely to form their learning methods step by step. Secondly, the objective of emotional attitude and values can motivate students to acquire more knowledge and form scientific learning methods. Lastly, the objective of process and steps serves as a bridge which connects the master of knowledge and skills with the cultivation of emotional attitude and values. This research focuses on how to apply the task-based language teaching to the daily practical teaching. The task-based language teaching aims to improve students’ self-learning capability and arouse their interest in learning. Students, therefore, tend to participate in the teaching course instead of following every instruction without positive reaction. That is to say, students’ passive acceptance will be replaced with active cooperation. Moreover, the development in emotional attitude and values emerges in a way.By means of tests and questionnaires given out to students, light is thrown on the present situation of the development of students’ three-dimensional objective. The worrying result shows that the present-day English teaching, nevertheless, places emphasis merely on imposing the learners with basic knowledge, which leads to the awkward situation, in which language teaching for the sake of communication has been replaced by rote memory of vocabulary, collocations and grammatical points. The teaching practice in this tradition, very unfortunately, leads to great deficiency in students’ linguistic competence, learning strategy and the making of their emotional attitude and values. The teaching mode of this unbalanced kind will by all means keep students from all-round development, leaving their cognitive abilities neglected. Applied to the practical teaching, the task-based language teaching can to some degree strengthen students’ self-learning capability. They are motivated to arrange their own learning task and pace, instead of simply keeping to teachers’ orders. In addition, it helps to switch students’ role during the class, which means that they may act as a planner or an organizer when necessary. And last but not least, it has an apparent effect on improving students’ attitudinal emotion and value.
