The New Geography Curriculum in senior high school education advocates that geography teaching should be exploratory and practical. More attention should be paid to carrying out a wide variety of "activities" in geography teaching, through which students can acquire knowledge about geography, master some geographical skills and promote learning ability of geography and so on. As an important learning tool in the process of geography learning, geography textbooks play an important role as a connection medium between teachers and students in geography teaching. The newly-used versions of geography textbooks design more activities in order to conform to the New Geography Curriculum Standards. The activities designed in the geography textbooks can activate static knowledge of geography through which the absorption, application and creation of the knowledge can be realized by students. What’ more, those activities in the geography class can develop students’ intelligence as well as play the role of the teaching materials. Thus, the design of geography textbooks must conform to the characteristics of students’ psychological development in order to guide the student to study and promote the development of students in all aspects.This paper looks at the geography teaching in senior high school from the perspective of students’ psychological development characteristics combined with basic ideas in New Geography Curriculum, Bruner’s cognitive-discovery learning theory and the definition, function as well as the classification of geography textbooks system influenced by STS education theory. The paper conducted an experiment in two senior high schools in Pan’an County, Jinhua City. Some questionnaires are sent out to parts of the teachers and students in the two schools as to whether the activities system excerpted from HEP edition of senior geography textbook 1 can meet the needs of students’ psychological development. By statistically analyzing of the questionnaires processed by Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation method, this paper made the detailed analysis of activities system in this version. Then the design principles of activities system in geography textbooks are put forward and optimization suggestions for activity system are also presented.Through the investigation and analysis, the paper found both advantages and disadvantages from the activities in the HEP edition of senior geography textbook. The advantages embodied in cultivating students’ geographic literacy and achieving students’ personal development through changing the learning way. Besides, all the inquiring problems are designed in well organized, which show the openness and exploration of the teaching materials. Faults are mainly on the design of difficulty of activities. Moreover, the operative should be considered at the same time. Further, the activities are lacking of creation and the evaluation is less importance. According to the results from the data, the design should be designed to follow the principle of students’ subjectivity, explorative principle, practical principle, open principle, the principle of diversity, interesting principle and discipline, comprehensive principle. In order to improve the activities in the HEP edition of senior geography textbook the paper tried to give some suggestions for the study. Firstly, activities should conform to the students’ cognitive development level. Secondly, the operational activities should be strengthened. Thirdly, in order to strengthen the activity of creating situation, the activities should stimulate students’ thirst for knowledge.
