| Pedagogical approach is the necessary way to realize the idea and goals required by the curriculum. The new physics curriculum standard promulgated by China Ministry of Education has presented new concept and objective. The standard addresses the importance to develop the students’ scientific literacy, emotion, attitude and values. The traditional teaching methods for physics in high school can hardly reach the requirement of the new idea and goals. The new curriculum standard advocates the inquiry-based teaching, while there are still many Chinese teachers use the traditional teaching method. Thanks to the traditional teaching method, Chinese students get great success in the PISA tests organized by OECD in mathematics, reading and scientific literacy, but perform not very well in the ability of scientific innovation. This situation may contribute negative effect on the development of science technology in the country. Therefore, it’s necessary to reform the tranditional pedagogical approach. It is very important to compare and investigate the difference in the pedagogical approaches between China and other country. This paper chooses China and British as examples, summarizes the differences in physics teaching method between two countries, analyses their advantages and disadvantages and comes up with some suggestions. This paper includes five parts. In the first part, An overview on the objective, significance, method, current research status is made.In the second part, an brief introduction of theoretical basis is introduced. The third part Establishes a comparative model of physics teaching methods, determines three items for comparsion based on the factors that influence the physics teaching method. The first item is National level, the second item is school level, the third item is teaching practice level. In the fourth part, According to the comparative model, find the differences in physics teaching methods between China and British. This part starts at the fourth chapter and finishes in the seventh chapter. In the fifth part, some suggestions on how to reform the teaching method are given according to the result of this study. The conclusion is as the follows:The British’s physics teaching methods is basically similar to ours, but the difference lies in how to arrange teaching procesures. In China, teachers prefer to expository method and practice method, and pay attention on educating the basic knowledge and theories of physical. In British, teachers prefer to experimentation, discussion and inquiry-based teaching method, and emphasize the importance to the practical skills. The traditional culture, education system, curriculum standard, arrangement of time, arrangement of students, class practices and textbooks are the main factors that influencing the physics teaching method. |
