| Along with the rise of educational measurement and evaluation in the West in the mid—19th century, the oneness of evaluation leads to homogenization of higher education. Integration of European Higher Education of the 20 th century aimed at enhancing the attractiveness of regional education, improving students’ employability. Although the European integration process helps to increase the comparability and compatibility of higher education, but unable to curb the trend of homogenization, especially the ranking research began during the 1980 s extremely strengthen the allocation of the research resource stratification. Take Academic Ranking of World Universities launched by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the THE-QS World University Rankings as examples, they find that the European Universities behaved badly, their survival and development are even stressed a lot by the rising Asia-Pacific Universities. In order to fight back,the EU launched a series of initiatives in recent years. Among them, in May 13, 2014, EU launched the U-Multirank in a positive response.U-Multirank includes five dimensions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international orientation, regional engagement, with user-oriented, multi-dimensional, personality and other characteristics, it has covered more than 70 countries, over 850 universities and higher education institutions, involving a variety of subjects, such as mechanical engineering, business and physics and so on. Take U-Multirank as a case and The Division of labor in Social of Emile Durkheim as theoretical basis, this article tries to explore the U-Multirank’s effect and value for the reform and development of EU’s higher education, and finally sort out the enlightenment. This paper obtained three conclusions:(1)User selection reflects the interests of the stakeholders’ individual consciousness, the average intensity and the extent of the collective consciousness determines the degree of close social relationships, the weaker the collective consciousness, the stronger personal consciousness, it means that the ranking has stronger regulation to European Higher Education.(2)Nature of division is heterogeneity among individuals, division in the advanced social which is based on the division of labor in social is constructed by different from others’ characteristic, they are independent but rely on each other. From a sociological point of view, U-Multirank classifies activities and subjects, and make them personalized, to ensure the sound development of the European higher education by the dynamic equilibrium of subjects, universities, regional and other aspects.(3)The young of European Union who not in Employment, Education or Training and international immigration because of globalization are the abnormal forms of the division of labor in social, U-Multirank as assessment policy, to resolve the crisis on European higher education, and to make the division of labor normatively, promote European higher education to produce organic unity, so that it can orderly and rapid development. U-Multirank also mapped directly industry differentiation and social division to the training program in European universities, thus highlighting the social service functions of universities. |
