With the deepening of the basic education curriculum reform and the implementation of quality education, according to the reality of historical discipline in the college entrance examination, both from the demand of the development of high school students, and to improve the quality of the teachers,they all put forward higher request to the high school history learning,to strengthen the reading ability of history of high school students. To improve the students’ reading ability of extracurricular history is not only beneficial to cultivate the students’ quality and to improve the logical thinking and reading ability; but also promote teachers’ professional quality, and make up the lack of teaching time in class, so as to improve the overall level of school education, and to ensure the quality of school teaching. Both in domestic and abroad, the study of extracurricular reading is more extensive, but the scope of our research mainly focuses on the subject of Chinese and English, and history research mainly focused on the junior middle school history extracurricular reading, little on the study of high school, it provides the subject with full creative space and explore potential.This article mainly uses literature research, questionnaire investigation, case study method to carry on the detailed study of this problem, according to the following train of thought: The first part outlines the history study in high school to strengthen the significance and necessity of extracurricular reading; The second part survey the present situation of extracurricular reading and problem analysis through interview and questionnaire. In a series of investigation, it discovered many problems of high school students in extra-curricular reading history, for example, high school students lack awareness of extra-curricular reading; High school students’ reading condition is not good; The guidance of teachers in students extra-curricular reading is wrong; Family support for enthusiasm of extracurricular reading is not high; Support policy related to school is lack; The third part puts forward some countermeasures of high school history extracurricular history reading of high school students. The exchange of present situation needs the efforts of school, family and society. I hope that through the in-depth discussion and research of the problem, it can offer some constructive suggestions for effective teaching of middle school history, some enlightenment to the professional development of teachers in history.
