Young students are the main force of national construction and development and their ideological consciousness has an important influence on the future ideological direction of the country. The colleges and universities are the best platforms for students to promote its mainstream ideology, while "Ideological and Political Course" is mainly responsible for the propaganda task. However, the current "Ideological and Political Course" to guide students’ mainstream ideology is of limited efficacy.This paper comprehensively uses various disciplines to explore the reasons why "Ideological and Political Course" functions poorly in guiding ideology and finds ways to improve it on the basis of doing research on the status of "Ideological and Political Course" in some colleges and universities in Beijing through referring to relevant information. In the writing process, the biggest problems I encountered in this paper are to analyze why the "Ideological and Political Course" teachers have guiding functions of mainstream ideology and describe the current situation of "Ideological and Political Course" in some schools in Beijng. The process of overcoming the problem is where the innovations lie; or, the teachers’ performance in guiding function solves the first problem and reviewing the current situation of "Ideological and Political Course" starting at the students’ attitudes towards these solves the second one. In addition, this paper puts forward the idea that the emphasis on socialist ideological education of college students should adhere to the system theory and efforts from both lateral(family, school, community) education and longitudinal(primary, secondary, university) education is another innovation of this paper.Educational purposes and educational content of "Ideological and Political Course" are linked with a distinctive color of socialist ideology, which can help guide college students to form the mainstream ideology. However, the situation is not optimistic in the case of research in some Beijing colleges and universities as the author knows. The students hold the negative or entertainment attitudes towards the "Ideological and Political Course" and teachers have hit a bottleneck in integrating fun and profundity of classes effectively in the teaching process.This paper is divided into three parts. The introduction gives a preliminary interpretation of the research topic and has a brief introduction of questions and significance, research status, research methods and definition of relevant concepts. The first part analyzes that "Ideological and Political Course" has a guiding function to help college Students to shape the mainstream consciousness. The second part puts emphasis on troubles the "Ideological and Political Course" have in the process of formation of guiding students the mainstream ideology and gives deep analysis on the reasons, that is, contemporary students has new features of times, "Ideological and Political Course" teachers’ enthusiasm is not high, and the support of "Ideological and Political Course" lacks the characteristics of keeping with the times etc. The last part indicates the ways for the "Ideological and Political Course" to guide students to shape the mainstream ideology. Firstly, the Basic Theory of "Ideological and Political Course" "Indoctrination Theory" shall be re-interpreted, and "Indoctrination Theory" in new situation must rationally use and clarify three concepts. Secondly, a high-quality "Ideological and Political Course" Teachers’ team shall be constructed. Thirdly, the importance on systematic education for college students shall be put. Finally, the education carrier of "Ideological and Political Course" needs to keep pace with times. From the above analysis, we can come to the final conclusion that the full participation of multi-agent and hand in hand of multi-initiatives shall be carried out.
