The late decade of Qing Dynasty and Early Republic of China Yunnan industrial education rose under the background of self-strengthening movement in China when it has strong demand for Industrial talent as the development of modern industry and commerce, and it was influenced by school system reform in the late decade of Qing Dynasty. Yunnan industrial education sprang up with the individuality reason. It develop with its own characteristics.This article is divided into five parts to discuss. The first part is to analyze the reason of the Yunnan industrial education’s generation. There are three primary reasons: The rise of modern industry in Yunnan to demand of industrial talents is the economic incentives; The national industrial education ideological trend and influence of students who has study in Japan are ideological motivation, and establishment of modern school system is the system motivation. The second part is to introduce the general situation of Yunnan industrial education from three aspects, which are education scale, regional distribution, hierarchy and type. The third part is to analyze the curriculum and teaching situation of industrial education. The fourth part is to research the industrial education’s teachers, students and funds management issue. The fifth part first summarizes the characteristics of industrial education from four aspects. Last part is to evaluate the role of industrial education which is mainly of contributing to the industrial development; promoting the education for studying abroad; changing the traditional education mode of learning without doing and promoting the formation of the new education idea about combination of teaching and the production.Finally, the conclusion of this paper is that Yunnan industrial education in the late decade of Qing Dynasty and Early Republic has both commonness and individuality compared with the whole country. The generality are consequence of self-strengthening movement in China; lack of qualified teachers and students when it start; education content combined with the requirements of the local industrial development; and education budget shortage. The characteristics of Yunnan industrial education are begin late, small education scale, low-level, unbalanced development of subject and region, and lack of scientific theoretical guidance, which is due to the late starting of Yunnan modernization, underdevelopment of modern industry and commerce,unbalanced development of regional economics, and lack of industry talent who has scientific theories. The relationship of Yunnan modern industry and industrial education is mutual promotion. Yunnan industrial education particularly pays attention to practice teaching and does well, which emphasize the characteristics of vocational education providing a reference for the development of the modern vocational education.
