This experiment is an investigation of undergraduate students?eye movements under multimedia conditions, which is based on the known fundamental theory of multimedia learning. Each student was presented both two kinds of materials: concrete text and abstract text with one of the four alternative instructional designs: a visual text only, a diagram with visual text, the diagram with auditory text, or the diagram with both visual and auditory text. This experiment is to provide valuable psychological theories for designing multimedia courseware. The results indicated: l.when participants studied the concrete text and the abstract text under different presentations, their eye movements were remarkably different; 2. when the participants studied the concrete text and the abstract text under the same presentations, their eye movements were remarkably different; 3.when the participants studied the visual text and the diagram of the same material under the same presentations, their eye movements were remarkably different; 4. when the participants studied the same material under different presentations, their results were not remarkably different. |
