The qualified personnels referred to in this thesis include scholars who qualified the royal examination and those who made contribution to the social and cultural development of Yunnan province By using Marxist historical theories, this thesis makes a comparatively deep research into Yunnan抯 school education and the geographical distribution of the qualified perscmucls during Ming and Qing Dynasties. Confucianism was spread into Yunnan with the invasion of Qin and Hang Dynasties. The documentaiy recored of the teaching of confucianism in Yunnan before Yuan Dynasty is too brief to be studied upon. Saidiancbi?Zliansiding established the province of Yiuinan and set up schools to prosper education. Confucianism was thus spread widely in Yunnan. Ming Dynast~ was an important period in Yunnan抯 social development as well as a period during which radical changes took place. With the coming of Han immigrants, the constitution of Yunnan抯 nationalities took a thorough change. Han immigrants brought with them advanced culture and modes of productiOn from inland, giving a great impetus to social economy and creating favorable conditions for Confucianism to be as prevailing as never before. Qing Dynasty, after being established, continued to cariy on the culture and education polic of worsltiping Confucius and studying confucian doctrines? The dynasty set up free schools on a large scale. extending Confucianism to outlying and minority-inhabited districts. Confucianism as spread through various levels, influencing a wider range. During this period, qualified persoiinels emerged in large numbers, both as a result of the development of the society and as a sign of the level of economy and culture of different places at that time. Looking from the geographical distribution of qualified personnelsin Yunnan in this period, it could be seen that the economic and cultural levels varied significantly in various districts. We search for the regular pattern of the development of Yunnans school education and qualified personnels with the purpose to summarize historical experiences and better utilize personnel resources in the Reform arid Opening up to the outside world and the Development of the West Region.
