Cultivating scientific literacy has become an essential goal of chemistry curriculum reform. As an important component of scientific literacy, scientific interest can promote the process of students' cognition to science, and can embody the stage of cognition and characteristic of chemistry, it also became the jumping -off point of cultivating scientific literacy. Scientific interest of students at different cognitive stage has difference in level, researching on the levels of scientific interest will improve the efficiency of arousing scientific interest and enrich basic theory of scientific literacy education.This paper discussed the theoretic foundation for dividing scientific interest into different levels from pedagogic, psychologic, philosophic dimensions. According to existent theory and the characteristic of chemistry, students' scientific interest was divided into four levels from low to high 梐pperceive interest, manipulative interest, inquiry interest, creative interestThe paper revealed the situation of students' scientific interest during the process of chemistry instruction in middle school by questionnaire and accessing. Most students' scientific interest remain with manipulative interest and inquiry interest; learning motive and subjectivity of students are key factors which have great influence to the formation and development of scientific interest; instructional content related to life and society and chemical experiment have great attraction to students.Combining with the conclusion we drew from investigation, instructional principles and strategies were constructed. "Directed by the idea of subjectivity education "and "Combine with the cultivating of ability to create and practice" are chief principles. Some content hi new edition textbook are helpful materials, and the function of arousing and keeping students' scientific interest will be carried out in terms of other functions of textbook were realized. Different kinds of chemical experiment and experimental instruction models are effective measure of cultivating scientific interest hi different level. Scientificinquiry not only provided plenty instructional content for cultivating scientific interest synthetically, but also became central instruction activity.
