The purpose of this thesis is to cany out an investigation into the current situation of writing among Chinese middle school students, and to find out about the problems existing in their writing processes so as to provide a substantive basis for the research of laws and methods of writing for middle school students, as well as for the reforms of writing teaching among Chinese middle schools.In the thesis, the author summarizes her results of investigation on students' writing interests and motives, contents and forms of their compositions, usual practices and methods of writing and the results and levels of their writing. The investigation shows that at present, the situation is not a pleasant one, and this can be demonstrated by the declining of writing interests, the utilizing of writing motives, the lack of content and the invariableness of forms. Besides, most of the students haven't known any correct writing method and haven't cultivated a good writing habit. All these things arose the author's interest. On analyzing these problems the author points out that this is resulted from the examination-oriented education. This type of education practices occupied students' space of life and their time for readings; intensified their ulterior writing motives, moulded the patterns of writing teaching and separated writing from its practical functions.In view of this situation, the author finally puts forward her solutions from a teacher's perspective. The solution includes the tactics of stimulating the students' interests in writing, fostering their writing habits, adhering to the principle of fostering qualified personnel, broadening the sources of materials, making flexible shifts of writing teaching methods and combining inside and outside factors of the students, etc.
